[Ozurdex(®) and aphakia: a combination to avoid].

zurdex® (Allergan Inc., Irvine, CA, USA) is a biodegradable mplant for the sustained release of intravitreal dexamethaone which has recently been approved as a treatment for acular edema secondary to retinal venous occlusion and n posterior uveitis of non-infectious cause.1 Ozurdex® has lso demonstrated its efficiency in diabetic and pseudophakic acular edema. Before it was placed on the market, Ozurdex® was not dministered to aphakic patients. The technical data of the rug do not consider complications in this group of patients nd literally state that “Ozurdex must be used with caution in phakic patients”. Pardo-López et al.2 described the first case of implant igration to the anterior chamber (AC) in a patient with ntraocular lens fixed to the iris and intra-surgery capsular upture. The implant was removed surgically but the patient equired corneal transplant. Bansal et al.3 published 3 cases f implant migration to AC, all in patients with noninfecious posterior uveitis and post-vitrectomy and lensectomy phakia. In 2 of the cases, the implant was relocated in the itreous cavity and the third required surgical removal with ost surgery persistence of corneal edema.
